i didn't set out to start a household labor revolution. i just got tired of finding crumbs under the dining table while my roommate explained how busy he was. he had plenty of time to rank video game characters, debate which pizza topping had the highest social status, and make a fourteen-slide presentation about why cleaning should happen naturally. the floor, somehow, failed to clean itself.
then i discovered the eufy RoboVac 11S Max, a slim little robot vacuum designed to clean floors without somebody pushing it around. the moment i imagined it cruising across our living room, i realized we could finally end the argument about who had vacuumed last. nobody could claim the robot was procrastinating in the bedroom. it doesn't even have a bedroom.
my roommate immediately announced that any robot living with us should contribute to rent. i proposed paying it in electricity and giving it employee-of-the-month status. he called that favoritism. i pointed out that the machine had already accomplished more during a single cleaning cycle than his motivational speech about the importance of teamwork.
now the household hierarchy is simple. i make the rules, the robot handles the floor, and my roommate is technically middle management because he occasionally rescues a charging cable from underneath the sofa. i am considering a tiny corner office for the vacuum. it would still be bigger than my roommate's contribution to the cleaning schedule.
